Commander-in-chief must have heart

Symbols or ideals? Preserving our history, or changing our future?

As we near our presidential elections, I thank the stars that there are people who actually seem to listen to every speech, read every written word, delve into the past, put all that information into a big pot and simmer it down into digestible, understandable sips.

After all, we’ll be voting for our children’s new boss, and we want that person to think of our children as living, breathing people, not numbers of troops to be manipulated on the game board of international politics.

Naïve? Maybe so, but the commander-in-chief I want in office works in the best interest of all of us, while making sure that our flesh and blood is not squandered for no good reason.

My son signed on the dotted line with the Marines knowing full well that his life, his future for a time, would become the property of the United States of America. He wouldn’t have signed without having the faith that he would be used in the best interests of the Corps and, by extension, our country.

If he has that kind of faith, then so must I. I pray it’s well-placed.
